NYC Itinerary: How to see everything in four unforgettable days

A story is told on every street colour in the city filled with adventure, excitement, and endless possibilities: New York City, USA. The energy is undeniable: bustling streets, iconic skyscrapers, and exceptional Broadway shows are just a few examples of why this concrete jungle at the top of many traveller’s bucket lists.

Whether it’s your first visit or not, an adventure will always await you for your next trip to NYC. But if, like me, you have a limited time in the Big Apple, here’s an itinerary that will help you immerse yourself in the city as much as possible.

Day One: Settling into New York City

Tea around Town

Begin your New York adventure by immersing yourself in the city’s unique blend of culture and creativity. The High Line

After you’ve spent a day filled with desserts, sights, and a splash of pink, take a moment to embrace the beauty of New York City in a more tranquil environment: The High Line. 

For a moment, you can escape the intense hustle and bustle and take a stroll along the former railway line that’s been transformed into a green oasis floating above the streets below. You’ll encounter carefully curated gardens, contemporary art installations, and stunning views of the Hudson River. The juxtaposition of urban architecture and natural beauty creates a uniquely New York experience.

Chelsea Market

Address: 75 9th Avenue (between 15th & 16th St.), New York, NY 10011

End your first day at Chelsea Market, a food lover’s paradise housed in a historic former biscuit factory. The industrial brick architecture provides a stunning backdrop for over 35 vendors offering everything from fresh lobster rolls to artisanal chocolates. The market’s bustling atmosphere and diverse culinary offerings provide the perfect introduction to New York’s melting pot culture.

Day Two: Skyline spectacles and iconic heights

Grand Central Terminal

Address: 89 East 42nd Street (at Park Avenue), Manhattan, NY 10017

Plan for a slightly more intense second day in New York City as you’ll hopefully have recovered from jetlag or lack of sleep. Your first location of the day is Grand Central Terminal – a globally recognised train station filled with history and exceptional architecture.

Here, the celestial ceiling and marble floors create an atmosphere of timeless elegance. Take a moment to admire the intricate astronomical design painted across the main concourse ceiling, it’s a masterpiece that many visitors overlook in their rush to catch trains.

Gantry Plaza State Park

Next, venture across the East River to Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City. This waterfront park offers one of the most spectacular views of Manhattan’s skyline, particularly beautiful during the golden hour when the sun bathes the buildings in warm light. The restored gantries that once loaded cargo ships now frame perfect photographs of the city.

Feel the breeze from the harbour as you glide past the Statue of Liberty and witness Manhattan’s impressive silhouette from the water. Pier 35 swing

Continue your waterfront exploration at the Pier 35 swings, where you can relax on unique swings while soaking in stunning views of the Brooklyn Bridge. This serene spot offers a perfect escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.

Empire State Building

As evening approaches, ascend the legendary Empire State Building. The Art Deco masterpiece offers breathtaking 360-degree views from its observation decks. Day Three - Cultural icons and Broadway magic

Rockefeller Centre

9/11 Memorial

After the museum, walk over to pay your respects at the 9/11 Memorial, a deeply moving tribute that honours those lost. Day Four - Brooklyn adventures and cultural treasures

Just a short walk the intersection of Water Street and Washington Street where you can take a perfect NYC photo, Pebble Beach offers a unique perspective of the city skyline whilst providing a peaceful waterfront experience. Central Park

Address: Manhattan – between 59th & 110th Streets, Fifth Ave & CPW

Return to Manhattan for an afternoon in Central Park, the city’s green lung that provides respite from urban intensity. Whether you stroll through the Mall’s tree-lined pathway, watch street performers, or simply people-watch from a park bench, the park offers countless moments of discovery.
