But if you’re looking for a quieter break, while still experiencing the beauty that Morocco has to offer, Agadir might just be the perfect place to choose. Known for its beautiful beaches, warm weather, and laid-back atmosphere, Agadir is the perfect destination for a fun and relaxed vacation. Agadir is a major city in Morocco, situated on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean and near the foot of the beautiful Atlas Mountains. 

How to get there

Getting to the city is easy, as it has its own airport with direct flights from major European cities and other destinations within Morocco. When it comes to booking your accommodation, you’ll find many options to suit every budget, from hostels to luxurious resorts. If you’re looking for a more authentic experience, you can also consider staying in a traditional riad.

When shall I visit?

The best time to visit Agadir is usually from April to October when the weather is hot. However, it is a typically hot country in most parts all year round, even December to January time can see high temperatures, so if you’re chasing the sunshine, just remember to check the weather before planning your trip.

Is Agadir safe?

Agadir, and most of the tourist-friendly destinations in Morocco, are generally considered safe places to visit. However, as with any city, it’s always important to take precautions and be aware of your surroundings. Before visiting Morocco, be sure to know the laws and cultural customs. Around 99% of the country is Muslim, so it’s a good idea to dress modestly, particularly when visiting any places of cultural significance.

Agadir is a tourist-friendly city, and most visitors experience no safety concerns during their stay. However, it’s a good idea to avoid walking alone at night in unfamiliar areas (similar to pretty much anywhere else in the world). However, Moroccan culture is known for its hospitality and friendliness. If you need assistance, the locals will likely be willing to help, and there are plenty of hotels and restaurants in the Agadir region that you can visit if needed. 

What to do in Agadir

Beach fun

The highlight for many who visit Agadir will be the beautiful beaches. There are plenty to choose from such as Agadir Beach, Taghazout Beach and Tamraght Beach. All of these beaches will welcome you to walk on the soft sand and relax in the sun. However, for those who look for a little adventure, there are also many water activities that you’ll find to suit your taste.

Agadir is also a surfer’s paradise. There are several surf schools and rental shops which offer lessons for complete beginners to more advanced surfers, and equipment to use. You’ll also find kitesurfing and windsurfing activities in specific areas of the beach. 

Camel rides and day trips

While strolling along the beachfront, you’ll likely find camels walking down the beach. You can ride on a camel for a short time on the beach, or book an excursion with a tour agency that offers the service.

As well as camel rides, there are also fun day outs such as a hike around Paradise Valley, a trip in a hot air balloon at sunrise, or riding a quad bike in the dunes. If you’re visiting Agadir but don’t want to spend all of your time relaxing, there are plenty of options that you can choose from.

Relax and refresh

If you’re looking to relax and take a break from your hectic life back home, Agadir is the perfect place to pamper yourself. A traditional hammam is a great choice if you want to relax and rejuvenate in the steam rooms. You’ll also find plenty of yoga, fitness and wellness options, along with retreats. 

Head to the markets

For those who enjoy a good shopping trip, you’ll find plenty of local, colourful markets selling everything from souvenirs to traditional crafts. The city’s very popular market at Souk El Had where you will find everything that you can imagine in a market.

Food and drink

When it comes to food and drink, Agadir has it all. You can find a wide variety of traditional Moroccan cuisines, such as tagine and couscous, and seafood specialities like grilled sardines and octopus. Be sure to try some of the local mint tea, which is a staple of Moroccan culture.

Agadir also has a vibrant nightlife scene, with plenty of bars, nightclubs, and music venues to choose from. Whether you’re in the mood for a relaxed drink or a fun night out, you’ll find something to suit your taste.
